Gentlemen, how fat are your wallets?

No, I do not want to know how much cash you have; it is not an interrogating uncomfortable question that I pose.

It is a query based on observation of a very commonly made mistake of where you put that fat wallet. If you persist on putting it in your back pocket of your pants then please read on!

You may be causing yourself an ongoing disservice to your lower back and pelvis. Seeing we sit so much as a lifestyle whether it is for work or leisure, you are creating an unnecessary tilt that can adversely affect the balance and mechanics of your lower spine.

Research is pointing to the negative impact of sitting in all aspects of our health.  In years to come our children in their schools and adults in their workplaces will have standing desks as normal practice. Cars are the worst, whereby our hips are lower than our knees and further increases the strain of sitting on all the mechanical structures in the lower spine and pelvis.

Commonly observed in our clinic are the gents with a bulging backside on one side who then plonk down on their derriere and create an instant tilt through the pelvis.

Not only have they sat and switched off their core but they now have uneven compression going through their tailbone and lower back. Done repeatedly this can only add to the detrimental effects of our cultural want to sit.

So for one, clean out your wallet!

Two, put it in the front pocket gents.
